Julen nærmer sig og i år holder vi Juleudstilling for første gang på Granborg Gaard.

Det sker SØNDAG, den 4. December

fra kl. 12 til 17

der kommer til at være mange forkellige slags kunst, kunsthåndværk, men også rigtig mange gaveideer, lys, kort, dekorationer, også Jule-blomsterdekorationer og Julemarkedet byder også på mange forskellige kulinariske oplevelser, fra hjemmelaved chocolade til Juleæbler og internationale specialiteter.

Forskellige kunstnere udstiller og der er mange "boder" som sælger al slags lækkerier og brugskunst...

Det er ved at blive spændene i Danmark! Ud over selvlysende skyer og nordlys byder

det danske sommerland nu også på åbne atelierdøre i weekenden fra den 13. til den 14. August. og det er rigtig mange kunstnere som skal være med.

Vores atellier har gennemgået en stor forvandling siden sidste år og der er rigtig mange ting og sager at se på: mange forskellige slags kunst, men også mange spændende ting fra Nordskandinavien, interiør design-genstande og naturligvis også lidt lækkert til ganen!

Hjertelig velkommen til Granborg Gaard på Ravnse Byvej 18 i Nørre Alslev!

Am Wochenende vom 13. bis 14. August öffnet das Atellier der Galerie Granborg Gaard die Türen nach einer langen und umfassenden Renovierung! Die Ausstellungsräumlichkeiten sind sehr unikm, da untraditionelle Techniken und Materialien verwendet wurden um ein Nordisches und künstlerisch spannendes Milleu zu kreieren.

Die Ausstellung besteht aus verschiedesten künstlerischen Stilen und Richtungen. Darüber hinaus kann man selbsthergestellte Spezialitäten für den Gaumen kaufen und der Hofladen bieten viele Einrichtungsideen an, wie Glas, Porcellan, Kerzen, Servietten, getrocknete Blumen, signierte Kunstkarten und so vieles mehr...

Tn the beginning of August 24 galleries and artist in our area had opened their doors to the public. This is a traditional thing and usually happens every year in August.

This was the first time we had joined the efforts - since only now the renovations had progressed to such a state that one could actually do such a thing.

Much to our surprise we've had a tremendous amount of people coming and showing interest in a number of different things.

However, at the end of the second day it had finally become time for me to drive around and check out some of the other places and meet other artist.

And you would't believe, how different they were!

Basically, as a rule of thumb, you can say if their art isn't lovely then their personality isn't either.

But luckily there were also many who were quite lovable people, with beautiful visions, and a couple of those I will feature here:

Åbne atelierdøre 8/2010 er en tilbagevendende attaktion.

The first lady I visited was Dorte A. Hansen. I should have taken some pix there, but I didn't. Her art is simple, abstract, but very natural and Scandinavian and it has a lovely lighthearted, sweet spirit flowing through it. Perfect office-art and very affordable.

Now the ladies above are something entirely different.

They were out, in the middle of nowhere, on a converted farm - but everything had a little bit of a hobby-touch. Now don't get me wrong, I don't mean that in an invalidating way at all! On the contrary: both them, the place and their art are very charming and individual.

Nothing sterile about what they were doing! so if you want something very unique and handcrafted, which isn't too expensive, they'll be the ones to visit!

Now, this jolly fellow I really love!

First of all the attitude which both his wife and him share: They're got a big heart, love everybody and everything and "...now let's have a great time together!" - no matter what!

It comes over as very genuine and contagious!

I love what he's done to his dumpy farm! The part he has finished renovating really looks original and special - while both being elegant in a very rough way.

His art comes in neat frames, so it can also be accepted by stiff and snobby business/town people

and he seems to sell well, otherwise his prices wouldn't be this high!!!

So if you wanna show off with some Scandinavian art, which carries a beautiful and warm spirit while still being abstract neutral enough to match a minimalistic home or a prestigious office, he's the chap to contact, since he's also got all the right references, so your your snobby business-mates won't get a chance to fire off nasty comments...

Not far from there I met another charming artist: Laila Bennicke.

You can see, her art is as sweet and gentle as her first name!

Den sidste kunstner er Laila Bennicke.

And again, her workshop was quite an experience - rebuild from scratch - from the ruins of an old outdoor-building. She also teaches courses there and her and her husband have a museum on the ground where you can both see lots of amazing fossils, a sand-sculpture and her art as well.

Now the last place I'm gonna show you is our own.

Since we hadn't been able to make the deadline and be finished with the renovations, we thought, we'd just go the opposite way and would make everything dark and light it up with candles.

Not sure how wonderful an idea it really was, but it definitely created some effect and spread an interesting atmosphere...

Juleudstillingen 2010 bliver den officielle åbning af galleriet og så kommer der også at være en lille gårdbutik med kunst, kunsthånsværk og både Skaninaviske/Arktiske artifacts.

Vi holder kurser (keramik, porcelænamaling, maleri m.f.) og der kommer sener hen også et café: Vildmarkscaféen - hvorman kan nyde specialiteter fra nord-Skaninavien/Lapland.

Vores ambition er at lave et kunstnerisk inspirerende sted, hvor folk kan komme og hygge sig - bare for sjovt og måske tage en ting eller to med hjem - som de endda kan få mulighed til at lave selv. Men det vigtiste er at de nyder nogle spændende og hyggelige sanseindtyrk!

Lige some på vores galeri på Fyn, kommer der altid at være forskellige kunstnere, både lokale og internationale, som kommer til at udstille i Galleri Granborg Gaard.

I had a lot of hand-painted china out and was rather surprised how popular that was.

So we've since made the decision that we will buy a large oven (kilt) in which we can burn as much pottery/china as possible. So starting this winter people will not only be able to buy my own pottery, but also come here to do their own!

There will be courses and all kinds of activities.

This is one of my older abstract pix: acryllic, "troubled waters"

Some more china, i had my "Indian flip" when I made these...

It does actually take a rather long time to paint something like that...

but luckily there are just so many different ways of creating patterns... so there are also methods which are a lot faster than that one with a million tiny dots...

this is yet another old painting, actually of the view from the motorways, when you drive east from Nice, but aren't yet quite in Monaco... I love the Côte d'Azur and we used to go there quite a lot until it just wasn't fun anymore. These days it has an ugly taste of dirty business and too much greed on one side and shocking poverty on the other... so instead we just head north all year round...

As for our gallery:

Both, gallery and the shop will open for the Christmas exhibition 2010 and then anyone can also come and do it's own pottery, paint china or do other courses. The objective is to get folks to "hygge" themselves sufficiently! In plain English: "hygge" is the most important word of the danish languish, meaning "having a good and "cozy" time". It can also be translated as "coziness".

John Denver has written the music to this most beautiful sonnet.

The video is lovely, too and the musical piece and JD's performance definitely something that honors both John Gillespie Magee Jr.

and all other pilots - and really it's a tribute to us all - the spiritual being, or the soul, whatever you wanna call it it. It makes us realize that we all have wings, can be and do anything... live in the image of... and touch the face of God!

Perhaps not everyone knows who the author is...

John Gillespie Magee Jr.

During the dark days of the Battle of Britain, hundreds of Americans crossed the border into Canada to enlist with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Knowingly breaking the law, but with the tacit approval of the then still officially neutral United States Government, they volunteered to fight Hitler's Germany.

John Gillespie Magee, Jr., was one such American. Born in Shanghai, China, in 1922, Magee was just 18 years old when he entered flight training. Within the year, he was sent to England and posted to the newly formed No 412 Fighter Squadron, RCAF, which was activated at Digby, England, on 30 June 1941. He was qualified on and flew the Supermarine Spitfire.

Flying fighter sweeps over France and air defence over England against the German Luftwaffe, he rose to the rank of Pilot Officer. At the time, German bombers were crossing the English Channel with great regularity to attack Britain's cities and factories. Although the dark days of the Battle of Britain were over, the Luftwaffe was still on the job of keeping up the pressure on British industry and the country.

On September 3, 1941, Magee flew a high altitude (30,000 feet) test flight in a newer model of the Spitfire V. As he orbited and climbed upward, he was struck with the inspiration of a poem -- "To touch the face of God."

Once back on the ground, he wrote a letter to his parents. In it he commented, "I am enclosing a verse I wrote the other day. It started at 30,000 feet, and was finished soon after I landed." On the back of the letter, he jotted down his poem, 'High Flight'.

Just three months later, on December 11, 1941 (and only three days after the US entered the war), Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee, Jr., was killed. The Spitfire V he was flying, VZ-H, collided with an Oxford Trainer from Cranwell Airfield while over Tangmere, England. The two planes were flying in the clouds and neither saw the other. He was just 19 years old. He is buried in the churchyard cemetery at Scopwick, Lincolnshire.

Just got home from Norway, Finland and Sweden.

Actually the 2 pix above are a bit of a cheat, even though we're only a few hundred kilometers north of Stockholm, it never got dark.

A view onto Narvik, north-western Norway. We got so many great pix from these islands, it was really hard to chose one...

This is what lakes look like in the middle of Sweden.

Not a good place to lose your balance: a waterfall in the mountains between Kiruna (Sweden) and Narvik (Norway). However there was one place, where it was safe to get into the waterfall and I collected a lot of stones for our gallery... But don't do this at home, kids, the ride down, when you slip... is not a healthy one!

I can see, I chose the wrong pic here. However, I have a whole series of these heavenly sea-sky-pix - most of them look totally unreal, like from another world or an abstract water-colour-painting!

Ivalo, northern Finland.

The river is one of the old winter-paths, since during the winter they only used to have those ice roads to transport both goods and people. and the winters are looong up there!

This was actually taken south of Ivalo, Finland, Lapland. but it could also be taken in southern Denmark. It looks the same way where we live!

Sweden, in the middle of nowhere, just before we encountered a moose and a fox!

but as usually it's too dark and my camera too crappy and that's why all the moose-pix didn't turn out well enough.

Meant to chose another pic here either - however, this is a lovely place and the fishing easy. But there is this guy in the wilderness who sells his own home-smoked fish!

Since we've had such a bad experience last time, staying in the Elb-Lounge-Hotel in Hamburg,

we decided to find ourselves a new place.

NACHDEM WIR DAS LETZTE MAL IN HH EIN SO NEGATIVES ERLEBNIS IM ELB-LOUNGE-GASTHAUS GEHABT HATTEN, SUCHTEN WIR DIESMAL NACH EINEM NEUEN HOTEL

On the net we found www-oekotel.de , an environment-friendly place, listed as an oganic hotel.

UND FANDEN DAS ÖKOTEL.

And indeed, the service was much better, it wasn't more expensive

UND DER SERVICE DORT WAR AUCH VIEL BESSER UND NICHT NUR DAS!

and look at all the beautiful murals, they had on the walls there!

I spent my time photographing, while my guys

were down in the breakfast room, having a big and very enjoyable breakfast.

And that was also something that was so much better than in Elb-Lounge!

i never eat breakfast, because I only have fruit in the first hours of the day, but if you eat breakfast at all: this is the place to go!

And imagine: all this wasn't only very delicious, but they really, really enjoyed it so much, that they said this was there best hotel-breakfast ever!

I made these last week. they are for a friend of mine... Source of inspiration. Scandinavia in Winter.

HAB DIESE LETZTE WOCHE GEMALT. SIE SIND FÜR EINE LIEBE FREUNDIN UND NATÜRLICH VON DER SKANDINAVISCHEN NATUR IM WINTER INSPIRIERT...

By the way: the dark fur above the picture is reindeer... We've got those skins lying around on the living room floor and in the library... but don't do this at home, kids, reindeer which isn't strapped to the wall, loses it's fur quite quickly.

but here comes the trick: you make sure the floor is cold and moist enough or you do as my son does, collect the hairs in order to put them into the plaster-mixture when you build walls or secure roof-tiles from the inside... But that's a no-go for the states. you people over there simple don't have such heavy, burned roof tiles like we have and therefor there's no need to plaster them from the inside...

Saw Mythbusters once where they had a build a roof according to Californian building restrictions and they said "...yeah man, really, really solid roof...!" and of course what ever they blew up underneath it went straight through it! And that's also a problem when Americans test weapons. What they consider to be blasting through a solid building won't necessarily leave more than a scratch on something over here or an afghan fortress for that matter...

But it does explain why a little bit of wind in the States can cause so much damage. People who have no proper shelter are very, very vulnerable and exposed - also to the powers and moods of mother nature!

Rain forest theme

When decorating one of the guest rooms recently, I chose a rain forest theme in order to create a relaxing atmosphere in which one can just let one's thoughts float on a tropic river running through the refreshing shady green of the very much alive, but still calming jungle...

... well it's relaxing if you can enjoy it from a distance. If have to survive in it, your point of view would change very quickly... But here it's the riches of the rain forest that remind us of overflow and the juicy green leaves above the overgrowth, reflecting in the sunlight, that calm the soul...

I had been asked to do a bit painting for a local costumer more than two years ago. still haven't gotten my nerve up to do this, because it's sooo big. Seeing the size of that painting makes me realize that I really got my priorities all wrong and really I don't have a problem at all! how on earth does one paint a painting like that?! And no canvas creased, no flaws in the art-work, everything just beautiful and harmoniously... wow!

Okay, it's all very exciting to see and the architects really made their point and also the lighting is great, but what gets to me is the security issue. What do you do when the place is on fire?
And why do they bother with all that staff and checking bags and that sort of thing, if they don't see what's there anyway?

Until then I just had to make due with my little one... but he's used to all that kissing and cuddling and never complains, just puts on brave smile and cuddles everyone back... sweet isn't he?!

Came spring we always had our big Easter exhibition and an indoor market, where people could purchase artistic crafts and local specialities. It was always very popular and sometimes we had so many visitors that we ran out of parking spaces, even though we had an entire field to fill up...

Summerfield

this is a rather small acryllic painting.
I get most (if not all!) of my inspiration from mother nature and it's my purpose to create art which brings out prosive feelings in the viewer. So, most of the time I don't paint in order to present or recreate a certain image, I just "produce" an interior design object with the intention that it will make people dream beautiful dreams - you know, reconnect them to what is inside of them, the natural beauty which every one of us posseses inside our own souls!

Scandinavian Spring

I have made a whole series of these. They are not that small and the sort of thing people like to have hanging in their office. Half of them went to LA, the rest is up on my son's wall.

Goldrush

- A very large painting, on canvas in a broad, old fashioned frame.
My friend called it "Explosion of Happiness" and she really did everything she could to make me let go of the painting, but I just wanted to keep it, it fit so nicely on the livingroom wall...

Gazing at the ocean

I just love the sea!
I can't explain it, but the sea and the sky are just really where I love to be, so it's not surprising taht you can see taht in most of my paintings...

ved Vesterhavet

Vesterhaved is Denmark's west coast, the north sea.
It is very stormy there, after all the Atlantic isn't far away...
The pictures above is a "sculptural painting", containing small pieces of plaster and sea shells etc.

The Diver

It also happenes that what I paint isn't quite that abstract...
I don't know why i did this painting, I think I just felt like it and I needed something different for an exhibition.

Drivtømmer

Another one of my baltic paintings and another "sculptural" one!
The wood on the painting was indeed found in the Baltic.

Antiques and older paintings

Once the gallery is rebuild, it will also host a small antiques shop.

The dark blue dishes are nothing special, just something from Poland, which did match the other China I have. But these two blue coffee cups did belong to Louis the IVX. My mother got them shortly after WWII, when she worked for a friend who was a designer in France.

These are paintings from our dining room. Since we haven't finished building, we are using the main house as a gallery...

I got this particular painting on a fleamarket. It shows a typical danish landscape.

Another very typical danish motiv, I love the technique. But the frame was absolutely awful, so I had to restore it and decided on dark green, because it did compliment the painting best.

This is an italian painting, showing the vesuv. Probably done by a student. I love the painting; it used to belong to my grand mother's sister. But I hate the frame! It's a Nazi-frame (no, no crosses! But greek victory symbols, which the Nazis used as well, but you have to know, what you are looking for, otherwise the frame appears just to look normal...) Anyway, I haven't been able to find another frame yet, since I didn't wanna waste too many resources on it, so I just painted it over. The frame and the painting were slightly damaged during an air raid on Berlin, during WWII.

I am collecting and buying old paintings. I usually restore the frames and clean the canvas and we plan to sell a great deal of them when the new gallery opens...

I just found some more pictures on my PC which I would like to share with you:

In summer we would serve the meals for our B&B-guests in the entrance hall of the gallery. That was something, people enjoyed very much.

We have tried to preserve the original feeling of the stable, that's why the old wooden beams are still visuable in the gallery.

That's what the gallery and the house looked like from the yard.

The renovated gallery

I think it took us more than 2 years, but eventually we were finished renovating and opened for an Easter exhibition. But the nicest exhibitions were always around Christmas, because people were just so cheerful and everybody sold well and the visitors had such a wonderful time... and it was sooo cosy by the fire!

But first of all I would like to show you some of my own acryllic paintings:

-Life in the Jungle-

This is one of my many jungle-pictures. They make me feel relaxed and they are a synonyn for an intact ecological system to me, that's why I like to surround myself with these pictures. They spread happiness and give us hope for a ballanced eco-system here on earth.

-Hurricane-

This is a picture which many people wanted to buy, but no matter what they offered, I never sold it, because I have such deep feelings about it. I very much like the wind and being in a storm makes me feel alive - well as long, as I can manage to hang on to something and not too much crashes down on me...

-Flying South-

I have actually painted this picture, with a journalist and a photographer standing next to me, demanding that I do something quick, because they needed it for a special issue of the paper, right now and here! And frankly I didn't know what to paint and I didn't feel like "squeezing out" some art on command either. But it had to be done, I had a big exhibition on abroad and I coudn't efford to p... them off too much... But as soon as I had reasoned with myself, I then had the idea, that I could just use what I had in front of me as an inspiration.

You see, back then we lived in a small harbour, opposite to the island of Møn. And there was a bird's reservoir.

- Believe me, if you had been there in spring or autumn, you would definitely feel that Alfred Hitchcock's film "The Birds" was completely "under-casted" with birds!!!

There were so many birds in the sky sometimes, all flying in formation, that it could seem, looking at just one part of the sky, as if it had turned black!

Anyway: "flying south" is about the birds being off to Africa, once autumn has come...

Christmas exhibition!

On the wall you see the very creative art of Grete Katrine Haugen from Norway. I absolutely love it! And Grete herself is also a very, very nice person!

That's what the entrance hall looked like, when we were done renovating.

We sell a lot of reproductions and framed photographs as well. Grete's art is again on the wall.

This is the area with the stove, when I was finished with it. It was really nice to sit by the fire and enjoy coffee and cake!

Renovatiotion of the gallery

Since we are still in the process of renovating the gallery, I thought, I would let you see some pictures from Funen, while we were renovating there and what the final gallery came to look like.

the entrance hall from the other side. My husband and my sons really love doing wood work and did all the floors and ceilings.

I'm really proud of this one, since I build most of the walls myself and also the area where the stove is. You wouldn't believe, how many bricks I've used! I ordered a big lorry full of bricks from Jutland, which only just could enter our big yard...

We sell a lot of cards, books and also many other items. This is one of the shelves, which has already been filled up.

One of the many different pictures we exhibit, are photographs.

The picture above is one of my favorite. I just love the shadows of the clouds and how the sun lights up the land with its magic glow!

But the picture also means a lot to me, because of what I had to go through to take it! It wasn't an easy snap-shot, that's for sure!

Location: the north coast of Norway, by the Barent Sea, about 400 km north of the Polar Circle I would guess and it's the end of a very short and cold summer...

I can't tell you that it is the midnight sun, but it was quite close to midnight, perhaps already 23:00... and yes, the sun did not set!
